‘In the wake of plastics’ conference is a contribution from the Adriatic area to the global discussion on the problem of sea pollution.
The scenario arising from the DeFishGear project activities (on floating litter and litter from seabed, macro and microplastics in the sea and in beach sediments, collection and recycling of derelict fishing gear), developed along the eastern and western coasts of the Adriatic Sea, is depicting the same harsh reality of the rest of the world, and it’s a plastic plague in lasting exhibition.
What you ‘sea’ is what you get.
But what we all see ended up to the sea somehow. Then beyond scientific and management argumentations and knowledge sharing on the subject, the aim of the conference is to highlight the need for changes in the awareness & responsible behavior of common people and key stakeholders.
A renewed awareness on sustainability. You’re invited to contribute.
The conference agenda is asking for lectures or posters on:
- Environmental impacts
- Ghost nets
- Management and policies
- Marine litter
- Mitigation strategies
- Monitoring and treatment
- Social and economical impacts
According to the audience response, a final program will be structured in six different sessions with invited lecturers and two open thematic round tables.
Participation to the meeting is free of charge but seats are limited. Priority will be given to actively contributing participants.
